yeah post it.
Did some writing on this thing this weekend. Am currently up to 17 pages. Anybody wanna read what I have so far? Will keep you all posted.
yeah post it.
Okay, here it is in its purest possible form. Remember, this hasn't been edited one iota. Therefore, please take that into account when you read it. (p.s.-comments from either the Trick Dolls or VV would be most appreciated. Thanx).

FADE IN:
INT. MISTY?S BEDROOM-DAY
MISTY lies on her bed. She has bleach blonde hair. Her alarm sounds. As she turns it off and gets out of bed, Shampoo?s ?Girl Power? starts playing over scene.
INT. TRICK DOLLS REHEARSAL SPACE-DAY
Darkened basement. The area is decorated with Christmas lights and posters of rock stars. VANDA plays bass along with Shampoo. Pink hair, a little stockier, but pretty.
INT. MISTY?S BEDROOM-DAY
Misty, wearing a robe, walks through room with towel wrapped around her head. She picks up a pair of pants and tank top as she moves along.
INT. TRICK DOLLS REHEARSAL SPACE-DAY
JONSKU, taller and ganglier with jet black hair, plays guitar along with Girl Power. Her playing style is more vicious than that of Vanda.
INT. MISTY?S BATHROOM-DAY
Fully dressed, Misty stares into her mirror. She pulls her tank top tight against her tiny chest and stares. She looks closer, glaring at her forehead in the mirror. She reaches up and squeezes a zit, then looks at her armpits. She opens the medicine chest and is greeted by a note saying ?buy razors?.
INT. TRICK DOLLS REHEARSAL SPACE-DAY
JENN is behind the drum kit. She goes nuts on the skins, pausing to spin her sticks at times. She?s not as well made up as the others and has natural colored hair. She plays the simple drum beat of Girl Power with flair.
INT. MISTY?S BATHROOM-DAY
Misty stares into the mirror with stern eyes. In one hand, she holds a tweezers, in the other, a roll of duct tape. She looks at each, then casts the tweezers aside and pulls a length of tape from the roll. She clamps the tape on her right armpit, gripping a rosary in her free hand. She kissed each bead and stares at the ceiling, saying a silent prayer. Her eyes are shut tightly. She then rips off the tape and screams, hopping through the room. All that is heard is the sounds of Shampoo.
INT. TRICK DOLLS REHEARSAL SPACE-DAY
Vanda and Jonsku are gathered around a mic, playing and singing. At another mic stands Misty. She?s playing a guitar and singing lead vocals to the chorus of Girl Power. The band plays and ends the song with a flourish.
INT. TRICK DOLLS REHEARSAL SPACE-DAY
Later. The band has finished rehearsing. All are sweaty. Jenn is still behind the drums. Jonsku speaks with her while putting away her guitar. Vanda and Misty sit together.
VANDA
Any plans for after the year?
MISTY
None yet.
VANDA
Well, first things first, get out of this place. This town will suck your soul.
MISTY
Yeah, you might be right. You?
VANDA
Yeah, this year I?m going to go to all the loud concerts, kiss all the cute boys, and ride into the sunset with my prince charming.
MISTY
Asking a bit there, aren?t you?
Vanda sticks her tongue out at Misty. Both laugh.
MISTY
How will you know him?
VANDA
Easy. He?ll love Conscience Pilate like I love Conscience Pilate.
MISTY
Hope you?re not looking for him in Weirdale.
VANDA
Funny, lemme see.
(to Jonsku and Jenn)
Hey, you two think that anybody within fifty miles of us knows who Neil Leyton is? Present company excluded, of course.
Jonsku and Jenn look at one another for a few seconds, then break out laughing. Vanda looks at Misty, shrugs, and smiles.
EXT. WEIRDALE STREET-DAY
Vanda and Misty walk along.
MISTY
I?ve been thinking about the university.
VANDA
Selling out?
MISTY
Nah, just that one more year and we?re cast into the world.
VANDA
Higher education; is that what you want?
MISTY
No, not really.
VANDA
Would you take a look at this?
MARCUS walks his dog. He?s late teens.
MISTY
Hi Marcus.
VANDA
Hi cutie.
He walks by without saying a word.
MISTY
I feel bad for that guy. All he does is walk his dog every day.
VANDA
Yeah, well look at him. You?d think there were better things to do than that.
MISTY
Maybe he?s happy.
VANDA
Who could be? I mean, look at him.
They walk into a store. It?s a small general store. Behind the counter is LARRY, an older man.
LARRY
Morning ladies. What?ll it be?
VANDA
Ticket outta here.
LARRY
Can?t help you there.
MISTY
Just need a few things.
VANDA
And a pack of cigarettes for my dad.
Larry hands her the pack. Misty goes to the back of the store. ROGER and BRANDON enter. They are brothers. Members of one of the ?prominent? families in town.
ROGER
(to Vanda)
Vampira. You ain?t old enough for those.
BRANDON
I got something for you to smoke.
VANDA
Piss off.
Brandon looks at Roger and laughs.
BRANDON
I missed what you said.
VANDA
No, you didn?t.
He moves forward and grabs her by the shoulder.
BRANDON
You should be more lady like.
He squeezes. She screams.
VANDA
Let me go.
BRANDON
You really should be more like a lady.
MISTY
Let her go.
ROGER
What?re you gonna do about it?
MISTY
You don?t want to know.
He steps forward and pushes her. She knees him in the crotch.
BRANDON
Hey, you can?t do that.
MISTY
I just did. Let her go.
He eases his grip a bit. Vanda pulls away and leaves the store quickly. Misty puts her groceries on the counter. Brandon looks to Roger.
MISTY
(to Larry)
Couldn?t do anything to stop that?
He shrugs.
MISTY
Pathetic.
She takes her items and leaves.
EXT. STORE-DAY
Vanda sits, smoking a cigarette and crying to herself. Misty sits and puts her arm around her.
MISTY
Don?t cry.
VANDA
Always the same thing. This fucking town. I need to get out. I can?t do this forever.
The two rise and resume walking.
EXT. WEIRDALE STREET-DAY
VANDA
This town sucks ass.
MISTY
Alternative?
VANDA
Become huge rock stars. Worry about the world instead of this place.
MISTY
You might be shooting a little high.
They stop in front of Vanda?s house. On the porch sit JOSH I and JOSH II. Each late teens/early twenties and drinking a beer.
JOSH I
(to Vanda)
Hey, you forgot to finish my laundry.
VANDA
(to Josh I)
Do it yourself. Dad?ll kill you when he sees you got into his beer.
JOSH I
He?ll kill you when he hears that you?re smoking.
JOSH II
(to Misty)
Did you see my sister?
MISTY
Yeah, she was at practice.
JOSH II
Okay. She got three messages from some school. If you see her, pass it on.
JOSH I
(to Josh II)
Ooh, check it out.
They sit and watch as a car flies into the intersection, bottoming out when it hits a dip in the road. The car stalls, restarts, and moves on. The two Joshes laugh and click their drinks in cheers.
VANDA
(to Misty)
I have to get going. I?ll call you before the show.
MISTY
Robin. Yeah. Talk to you later.
Misty walks away.
JOSH I
(to Vanda)
I haven?t eaten.
VANDA
So cook yourself something.
EXT. MISTY?S HOUSE-DAY
She moves into the yard. At the neighboring house, a moving van is pulled up to the house. PATRICK, 10 years old, stands in Misty?s front yard.
MISTY
(to Patrick)
When did they get here?
PATRICK
About ten.
MISTY
You see who?s moving in?
PATRICK
Some old guy.
MISTY
Anybody else? Kids?
PATRICK
Nobody.
MISTY
You eaten yet?
PATRICK
Not hungry.
MISTY
You should eat something.
PATRICK
You?re not my mom.
MISTY
Thank God for that. But if she comes home and you?re emaciated, I?m dead. Come on. I?ll make you a tuna sandwich.
They go inside.
EXT. MISTY?S HOUSE-DAY
She mows the lawn. Looking next door, the movers are carrying many guitar cases inside. She stops to look at this.
INT. MISTY?S HOUSE-NIGHT
She?s on the phone while putting on nail polish.
MISTY
(into phone)
I don?t know, I didn?t see him.
(pause)
Like I said, just a bunch of guitars. I think I saw a drum set too.
(pause)
Well, he might be. God knows that folkies seem to like this town, for whatever reason.
(pause)
Yeah, well I?ll keep an eye out.
(pause)
Yeah, how much do I owe you for Robin?s show?
(pause)
Only ten? When?re we leaving?
(pause)
Gonna pick me up?
(pause)
Okay, sweet.
She?s only wearing panties and a t-shirt. Outside her window, LEE peers in. He is a swarthy man, standing on a ladder, propped against the side of her house. Her glance shoots by him. Outside, JIM, her new neighbor, shouts up at Lee. He is in his forties and thin.
JIM
(through window)
Hey, what?re you doing up there?
Lee struggles to get down. She walks to the window and opens it.
MISTY
Pervert.
Jim stands at the bottom of the ladder as Lee descends.
JIM
Get down from there.
MISTY
(into phone)
I?ll call you later. I have a freak outside my window.
She runs downstairs and outside.
EXT. MISTY?S HOUSE-NIGHT
Misty approaches the ladder. When she gets there, Jim is in her yard, awaiting Lee?s descent.
MISTY
You fucking pervert. What?re you doing up there?
He gets off the ladder and tries to move past them. They block his way.
MISTY
Answer me.
JIM
You should know better, pal.
LEE
I was just looking for nightcrawlers.
Patrick comes outside.
PATRICK
What?s going on?
MISTY
Go back in the house.
PATRICK
No, what?s going on?
MISTY
Get inside, right now. It?s past your bed time. If you don?t, I?m telling mom.
He goes back inside.
LEE
I was just looking for night crawlers.
JIM
(to Misty)
Do you want to call the cops?
MISTY
(to Jim)
What would they do?
(to Lee)
Get the hell out of here before I call your wife, sicko.
He scurries past.
JIM
You okay?
MISTY
Yeah. When you live around here long enough, you get used to that sort of stuff. I?ve got to go to bed. Want a free ladder?
INT. MISTY?S HOUSE-DAY
The kitchen. She grabs a cup of coffee and sits at the table. KAREN, her mom, enters and grabs a cup for herself.
KAREN
Mornin? dear.
MISTY
Mornin? mom.
KAREN
I heard that you met our new neighbor last night.
MISTY
How?
KAREN
Your brother told me.
MISTY
Oh.
KAREN
He also told me the circumstances.
MISTY
Yeah. He was a hero.
KAREN
That Lee bothers me. Doesn?t he think of his family?
MISTY
I don?t know.
KAREN
I?m going to bake him a cake. Would you run it over later?
MISTY
Yeah, sure.
(beat)
I?m going to a show in Saskatoon with the band on Friday. Can I borrow ten dollars?
KAREN
Who?re you going to see?
MISTY
Robin Black.
KAREN
Have I heard him?
MISTY
I gave you the cd last week.
KAREN
Oh yeah, him. I enjoyed that one.
MISTY
Yeah, very melodic.
KAREN
Who?s driving?
MISTY
We?re taking Jonsku?s car.
KAREN
Okay. No drinking.
MISTY
Of course not.
KAREN
Who?s going to watch Patrick?
MISTY
Can?t he stay over at Stevie?s?
KAREN
I guess I could call Phyllis.
MISTY
Working?
KAREN
When am I not?
MISTY
All the time, it seems.
KAREN
You should stop down some time. Keep me company.
MISTY
Maybe. I hate you working there. They treat you awful.
KAREN
Honey, I have a thick skin. I need to make a living. I?m sure you?ll understand when you have a family of your own.
You seen Thomas?
MISTY
Not recently. I should go sometime.
KAREN
Good. Anyway, I?ve got go get started on this cake. Would you give me a hand?
MISTY
Sure.
EXT. JIM?S HOUSE-DAY
Misty carries a cake. She rings the doorbell. She waits, then knocks twice. He answers the door.
JIM
Hi. Sorry, I didn?t hear you. I get that way when I?m playing.
MISTY
In a band?
JIM
Once upon a time. Now, I just play for myself.
MISTY
I?m in a band too.
JIM
Oh yeah? That?s great. Now, how can I help you?
MISTY
Oh, my mom heard about last night. She wanted me to properly greet you to the neighborhood.
She hands him the cake.
JIM
Thank you much. Would you like to come in and join me for a piece?
MISTY
Sure.
The go inside. He puts the cake down on the kitchen table and starts rummaging through the cabinets.
JIM
Movers. You can never tell where they put anything.
MISTY
You seem like you got moved in a hurry.
JIM
Yeah, for all their faults, they are efficient. What would you like to drink with this?
MISTY
Ummmm. What do you have?
JIM
Milk, tea, and homemade wine.
MISTY
I?ll take the wine. You make it yourself?
JIM
Yeah. Get the grapes imported from a vineyard in Spain.
He brings in two plates of cake and two glasses of wine.
JIM
It?s just a hobby. Something to occupy the time. So, tell me about your band.
MISTY
Oh, just simple stuff. Called the Trick Dolls.
JIM
You play around much?
MISTY
Just the occasional show here and there. Sometimes get a bar gig, sometimes a bowling alley.
JIM
Ain?t that the way we all start out?
MISTY
You said you were in a band. What were they called?
JIM
Oh that, it?s in the past. Don?t like to talk about them, if it?s all the same.
MISTY
Bad memories?
JIM
No. Good memories. Just in the past. Like to keep them there.
He drops her a wink.
MISTY
I?d like to hear your music sometime.
JIM
Again, I don?t have any. Threw it all away. Got a lot of books, if you?d ever be interested.
MISTY
Perhaps. You know, I?ve been rude. I didn?t even introduce myself.
She holds out her hand.
MISTY
Misty.
He shakes it.
JIM
Pleasure to meet you, ma?am. I go by Jim. Jim Dickey.
MISTY
Likewise. Welcome to Weirdale.
INT. TRICK DOLLS REHEARSAL SPACE-DAY
The band sits around, finished rehearsing. Jonsku listens to headphones.
VANDA
(to Misty)
That?s sick. You want me to kick his ass for you?
MISTY
No. Wouldn?t want you to be unladylike.
Vanda pushes her jokingly.
JENN
What?s your new neighbor like?
MISTY
Real nice guy. He plays a wicked axe. Used to be in a band, from what he told me.
JENN
Which band?
MISTY
Wouldn?t say.
VANDA
Could he get us some gigs?
MISTY
Probably once we?re ready to move past bowling alleys.
VANDA
That bowling alley gig you speak of will get us some great contacts.
JENN
That bowling alley gig is nothing more than being cheesecake for a bunch of drunks to look at.
VANDA
We?ll see which it ends up being after Saturday night.
JONSKU
This sucks.
MISTY
What sucks?
JONSKU
This cd. I?ve listened to it a dozen times and it absolutely sucks.
VANDA
A reason to believe in file sharing.
JONSKU
No. That?s stealing. But this thing is absolutely wretched.
JENN
So don?t listen to it.
JONSKU
No. I have a better idea.
INT. SASKATOON MUSIC STORE-NIGHT
Jenn checks out the musician magazines. Misty and Vanda are perusing the music. Jonsku is talking with DAVID, the front counter person.
DAVID
I?m sorry. Did you just ask for your money back?
JONSKU
Yes. I bought this here. Here?s the receipt. Give me my money.
DAVID
I can?t do that.
JONSKU
Why not?
DAVID
You bought it. You took it home. You played it. You can?t return it.
JONSKU
Excuse me?
She points to a display.
JONSKU
This says that the cd is loaded with twelve rocking tracks. It?s reaching to say that there?re two on here. That?s false advertising.
DAVID
Nobody made you buy it.
JONSKU
You lied to get me to buy it.
DAVID
You should come back when the manager?s here.
JONSKU
I live in Weirdale. Do you have any idea what kind of a drive that is? I?m only here because I?m in town for other business.
DAVID
I can?t give you a refund. I?ll lose my job.
JONSKU
Let me level with you about something. Every court in the land says that the labels own this music; that I can?t make copies of it. If I do, I go to jail. I didn?t buy anything. Let?s pretend that I only gave you a deposit on a rental. As you can see, I?m returning it to you in mint condition. Now, I want my money back.
Misty and Vanda look at music.
MISTY
New Michael Monroe.
VANDA
Ooh, he?s cute. No Neil, but still cute.
MISTY
Yeah, he?s a hottie.
VANDA
Gonna buy?
MISTY
Nah. No money.
VANDA
What about this one?
MISTY
They look worse than they sound. I mean, isn?t it bad enough that the guy sings like somebody?s stepping on his balls?
VANDA
Yeah, but the drummer?
Jonsku walks over, cd in hand.
JONSKU
Come on. We?re leaving.
MISTY
You get a refund.
JONSKU
This goes higher up. He gave me the number of the distributor.
They are joined by Jenn as they move toward the front door.
JONSKU
Can?t give me my money back as the store isn?t liable for the quality of their product.
(to David)
You will never see me and my money in here again.
They leave.
INT. CLUB-NIGHT
The four ladies sit at a table.
VANDA
What?s our number?
MISTY
Five.
JONSKU
I?ll take that.
JENN
I say eight.
VANDA
Eleven.
TIMOTHY walks up to the table.
TIMOTHY
Hey ladies.
VANDA
That?s one.
INT. CLUB-NIGHT
Half hour later.
Come on peeps. Is it really that bad? Anybody read yet?
Decent so far....what do the girls think?
<font size="4" face="Arial">No idea. Haven't really gotten their feedback as yet. I do hope to hear from them, though. Hopefully this'll get some of 'em back on here. *our hero hopes to avoid a lawsuit* lolOriginally posted by glamfly:
Decent so far....what do the girls think?
Got some more. Up to page 47. Should be up to about page 60 at the end of the week. Again, any feedback is heartily welcome. Hope the girls don't kill me or something. hehe
EXT. CLUB-NIGHT
After show. The ladies exit the club. Vanda has a man basically wrapped around her.
VANDA
(to Jonsku)
Eleven. I was right. Eleven requests for my number.
JONSKU
I lost count.
JENN
The show was good.
JONSKU
Of course. Robin rocks.
VANDA
(to Jenn)
You heard from some.
(to man around her neck)
Let go. I gave you my number. You don?t get a kiss tonight.
He goes away.
VANDA
(to Jenn)
Did you hear from some schools?
JENN
Oh yeah. Julliard and some others in the states. Plus a place in Toronto.
MISTY
You thought about it?
JENN
Let the chips fall where they may, I say. If that?s what I do, then that?s what I do.
VANDA
Well, the chips fall at Darryl?s Bowlarama.
JENN
Cheesecake.
VANDA
Oh pooh. You?re wrong.
JONSKU
(to Vanda)
How much we getting paid?
VANDA
Five a piece.
JONSKU
(to Jenn)
I get blueberries this time.
INT. SCHOOL-DAY
First day of school. Vanda and Misty walk through the halls.
VANDA
When?s your lunch?
MISTY
First.
VANDA
Dammit. I think I?m on my own this semester. We have to plan this more carefully next time.
MISTY
Count on it.
They are slowed in their progress by people standing around and moving slowly.
VANDA
Would you move it?
(to Misty)
There?s a lot of moseyers at this school. Moseyers and amblers. Why are they wasting their time, standing in one place.
(to moseyer)
Move it.
(to Misty)
It?s like they want to be here in the hall forever.
EXT. JIM?S HOUSE-DAY
Jim is in the kitchen. Misty lounges on the couch, looking around. Classical music plays in the stereo.
MISTY
You really need a woman?s touch.
JIM
What?
MISTY
Your house. It?s too manly. I mean, not in a bad way, but it could be softer.
JIM
You sound like my ex. She always used to be in charge of interior decorating.
MISTY
Ex?
He enters with a tray of sandwiches.
JIM
Yeah. Her name was Cassandra. From Wales. I met her in an earlier life.
MISTY
What happened? Or is this something else from the past that you?d rather not discuss?
JIM
No. She died a few years back.
MISTY
Oh. I?m sorry to hear that.
JIM
Every now and then, I can see her face almost haunting me.
MISTY
Tried dating?
JIM
I have yet to let her go. Someday, perhaps.
MISTY
Really. There?s a few women in this town.
JIM
They have something I don?t want. I don?t know what I need; just that I didn?t come here for romance.
MISTY
Then why did you come here?
JIM
Reflection.
MISTY
That sounds painful.
JIM
Every morning, I go for walks; long before anybody else is awake. I like to look at the sky, the town. There?s so much people don?t look at close enough.
MISTY
Well, if you?re looking for enlightenment in Weirdale, it might be a fool?s journey.
JIM
Not enlightenment. Just beauty. It?s to be found everywhere if you look hard enough. This cd. The guy was a philanderer of the worst kind. Yet, he makes something this beautiful. If all that was seen was his flaws, we would miss a more impressive creation that transcends the man himself.
MISTY
Sometimes the flaws are too glaring. The music is beautiful.
INT. TRICK DOLLS REHEARSAL SPACE-NIGHT
The band hangs out. Jonsku walks around, speaking into a cell phone.
VANDA
We need to work on the hook of Rockstar Boyfriends. I don?t like the way it?s dragging.
JENN
Agreed.
VANDA
And I think we should work on our outfits. Helps the stage show.
JENN
I need a drink. Be right back.
She leaves.
MISTY
Any calls?
VANDA
Six.
MISTY
Any dates?
VANDA
All duds.
MISTY
You?re too picky.
VANDA
Maybe. Want to stay over Friday?
MISTY
I?ll ask my mom. She?s been good about giving me nights off from the kid.
JONSKU
(into phone)
If you don?t have the authority, let me speak with somebody who does.
(pause)
Yeah?
(pause)
Let me get a pen.
(to Vanda)
Pen?
Vanda shakes her head. Jonsku looks at Misty.
MISTY
One second.
She digs through her bookbag.
MISTY
Here.
Jonsku snaps it out of her hand and starts writing on her arm.
JONSKU
(into phone)
Thank you.
She hangs up.
MISTY
Another level?
JONSKU
Oh yes. Much higher up.
MISTY
Who this time?
JONSKU
Regional supplier. After that, direct band management and the label themselves.
VANDA
Why don?t you give it up? They?re not giving you your money back.
JONSKU
This is beyond that. It?s personal.
She walks away.
VANDA
(to Misty)
Ooh, by the way, I get the fliers back from the printers tomorrow. When you come over, we have a little more work to do on them.
MISTY
Fliers?
VANDA
For the show. We can hand them out in school and put them up all over Main Street.
MISTY
This isn?t L.A.
VANDA
Tell me about it.
MISTY
How much did they cost?
VANDA
Don?t worry about that. As soon as we hit it big, it?ll be worth it.
MISTY
What time Friday?
VANDA
Just come over after school.
INT. VANDA?S ROOM-DAY
Vanda and Misty enter.
VANDA
(yelling out of room)
I don?t care if she has a nice ass, that comment was inappropriate.
(to Misty)
I?m so sorry.
MISTY
It?s okay. I?m almost flattered.
VANDA
That?s just sick.
Vanda walks to her dresser. She grabs a stack of fliers.
VANDA
Take a look.
MISTY
Five dollars a trick? I don?t think Jenn?s going to like these.
VANDA
Jenn isn?t a visionary like I am. Here, take a look.
She puts on some lipstick, heavily, and kisses the picture, leaving a mark on the flier.
VANDA
We do that on each and then write something under the mark with a silver glitter pen.
MISTY
What should we write?
VANDA
I don?t know. Something provocative like ?a night of glitter hugs and kisses?. Something like that.
MISTY
She?s really not going to like this.
VANDA
You hush and get to kissing.
INT. VANDA?S ROOM-NIGHT
The girls are changed into night clothes. They sit on the bed.
MISTY
Chad?
VANDA
Ewww. Sick. Pizza face.
MISTY
What about Kendall?
VANDA
Cute, but I think he?s gay.
MISTY
What about Drew?
VANDA
Maybe, but he stinks. Until he gets better hygiene, no way would I ever date him.
Outside, Butch starts barking.
MISTY
Your dog?s going nuts.
VANDA
Oh him. He does that this time of night. I think it might be a neighborhood cat.
MISTY
You sure?
VANDA
Yeah.
She walks to the window and opens it.
VANDA
Baby, be quiet. People are trying to sleep.
EXT. STREET-NIGHT
MAN ON BICYCLE drives past. Butch tugs at his leash. The man?s face is obscured from sight.
MAN ON BICYCLE
(to Butch)
Hang yourself. Hang yourself.
He makes a pass, then returns in the other direction. Vanda watches.
VANDA
Hey, get away from my dog.
The man keeps passing.
VANDA
Dammit.
She stomps out of the house, running to the man on bicycle.
VANDA
Stay away from dog.
As she approaches, he accelerates and rides away.
VANDA
Fucking town.
INT. VANDA?S ROOM-NIGHT
Vanda enters. Misty still sits on the bed.
MISTY
Did you get him?
VANDA
No. But my baby?s alright. Give me more names.
MISTY
We?ve gone through all the guys in town, except for Roger, Brandon, and Marcus. What about them?
VANDA
First two, cute, but total assholes. Marcus? Not on a dare. What about the girls? Start listing them.
MISTY
The girls?
VANDA
The girls. Maybe I need to broaden my horizons.
MISTY
Okay. What about me?
VANDA
Hmmm. You?re cute and all. A bit anal at times. Definitely a worry wart. Maybe.
MISTY
Maybe?
VANDA
Kiss me and we?ll find out.
MISTY
Kiss you?
VANDA
Yeah. It?s not like we?re gay. I?m not going to sleep with you. A lot can be told with a kiss.
MISTY
Okay.
The two move close.
MISTY
You sure about this?
VANDA
You hush and get to kissing.
She puckers up. The two close their eyes and lock lips for about a second. Each jump away and start spitting.
VANDA
Ewwwww. Gross. Bad idea. I?m not gay. It?s official.
MISTY
Your fault. Blech.
VANDA
We can still be friends, right?
MISTY
Oh yes. Of course. Even though you tried to slip me the tongue.
VANDA
You tried to slip me the tongue.
VANDA AND MISTY
(together)
Ewwwwww.
VANDA
That was so gross.
INT. LARRY?S STORE-DAY
Misty enters. Nadia stands by the front counter. Larry?s behind the counter.
MISTY
(to Nadia)
Hi.
Nadia answers with a smile.
MISTY
I love your hair. Do you color it?
She still smiles.
MISTY
Your hair.
NADIA
Oh. Hair? Yes.
MISTY
It?s great.
NADIA
Thank you.
Russell approaches from the back.
RUSSELL
(to Larry)
I think you should light a match before you enter. I used up the rest of your toilet paper.
LARRY
Duly noted.
RUSSELL
(to Nadia)
Car.
She smiles at Misty, then leaves the store. Russell follows.
LARRY
(to Misty)
She?s interesting, don?t you think?
MISTY
Not a talker.
LARRY
Best four thousand that son of a bitch ever spent.
MISTY
Huh?
GAIL Stevens enters the store. She approaches Misty and Larry with a folder in hand.
GAIL
Excuse me. I?m Gail Stevens, Morning Press Daily.
LARRY
Never heard of that one.
GAIL
We?re British. I?m trying to track down a man. I was wondering if you could help me.
She opens the folder and pulls out a picture.
GAIL
Have either of you seen this man?
They both look.
MISTY
Who is he?
GAIL
I can?t go into details. It?s a rather secret investigation. I just want to ask him some questions.
LARRY
Ma?am, I don?t know that man.
GAIL
You?
MISTY
No. Never seen him.
GAIL
If either of you do, please give me a call.
She hands each a card.
GAIL
Thank you for your time.
She leaves.
LARRY
Now that?s what I call interesting.
INT. JIM?S HOUSE-DAY
Misty arranges some flowers.
JIM
You didn?t have to do that.
MISTY
Like I said, you needed a woman?s touch in here.
JIM
Thank you.
MISTY
So, tell me about you.
JIM
I?ve already told all there is to tell. What else would you like to know?
MISTY
Why?d you leave your band?
JIM
I was tired of it. No joy.
MISTY
Were you big?
JIM
We were close.
MISTY
Would I have heard of you?
JIM
Probably not. Tell me more about your upcoming show.
MISTY
Oh, Vanda, our bassist, she made up all these fliers. I think she went a bit overboard.
JIM
Effort is never a vain proposition. If you want to make it, you need to sweat and bleed for it.
MISTY
Yeah, I know.
JIM
Let me guess. You?re not so sure you want to be a rock star?
MISTY
It just seems that she?s putting a lot more stock into it than the rest of us.
JIM
Be sure to tell her that. No reason for her to be surprised.
MISTY
Okay.
(beat)
You?re a worldly man, right?
JIM
Don?t know if I?d want to go that far, but for the sake of argument, let?s assume I am.
MISTY
Okay. I heard a rumor about this guy.
JIM
Rumors don?t require worldliness.
MISTY
I still need your opinion.
INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY-DAY
Vanda and Misty stand by Vanda?s locker. Vanda holds a stack of fliers.
VANDA
Here. Take half and give them to people.
MISTY
This isn?t going to work.
VANDA
Sure it will. Think positive.
She turns and hands one to a passing girl.
VANDA
Hey Katrina, show next Saturday.
(to Misty)
I?m going to run some down to the band room, you take the lobby.
She walks down the hall, passing fliers out.
INT. MISTY?S HOUSE-NIGHT
Misty and Karen are in the kitchen.
MISTY
All day tomorrow? You know I have practice.
KAREN
Do you expect to leave him here alone? He?s just a child.
MISTY
Why am I always stuck watching him?
KAREN
Because he?s your brother, that?s why. I don?t want to have this argument again.
MISTY
Dad never stuck me with him.
KAREN
And, if he was still around, I wouldn?t either, but he?s not. Hence, it?s the little effort I expect of you.
MISTY
What about next year? Who will watch him then?
KAREN
He?ll be old enough to watch himself.
MISTY
Fuck it. Fine. I?ll do it.
KAREN
Good. I have to get to work. Try changing your attitude. You?re acting like a spoiled brat.
She leaves. Patrick comes out.
PATRICK
Can I watch cartoons?
Misty stomps out of the room.
INT. DARRYL?S BOWLARAMA-NIGHT
Backstage; basically a locker room. The band is ready to go on. Vanda paces, periodically looking out the door.
VANDA
I can?t wait. This is going to be awesome. Damn Carl better not have ruined this.
JONSKU
Were you serious?
VANDA
Yeah, I papered all of Main Street; it was awesome. Then Carl comes along and tells me to take them down. He just has it in for me because he arrested Josh last year.
JONSKU
Don?t you think that was a bit excessive?
VANDA
Somebody saw it. That?s all that matters. They saw it and will come to the show.
MISTY
Can we go out?
Vanda peeks out the door.
VANDA
The crowd?s not all here, but it is Saturday night. They?ll just miss the first few songs. Oh, and don?t be scared to talk to the crowd; it will make it more personal.
MISTY
Gotcha?.
The band goes out. There is no real crowd, per se. There are a few tables of people who look like regular patrons. Marcus bowls a game by himself. Several other lanes are occupied. The stage is set up to the side of the room. The two Joshes, who are working, man the bar. Josh II waves as the band takes stage.
JENN
At least I get to impress my brother.
VANDA
That?s not why we?re here. Just think like a star, already.
INT. TRICK DOLLS REHEARSAL SPACE-NIGHT
The band enters. Jonsku is on the phone.
JONSKU
Well put me through to somebody who can fix this.
(pause)
Because it sucked. Give me my money back.
VANDA
It wasn?t that bad.
JENN
Last time I play that place. No more bowling alleys.
VANDA
But didn?t you feel the crowd starting to get into it?
JENN
Oh, which ones? The table that asked us to stop for ten minutes so they could play a Skynard song off the jukebox or the football players that came in and started catcalling us.
(mocking)
Take it off. Take it off.
MISTY
Was pretty cool of your brother to toss them out on their ear for that one.
VANDA
You?re being negative. What about the kids that came in later?
JENN
You mean the eighth graders? Arrived in their designer threads and were bowling by the time we finished? You mean them?
VANDA
You have to keep this in perspective.
JENN
No more bowling alleys. I mean it.
VANDA
(to Misty)
You don?t think it was that bad, do you?
MISTY
Our sound was good.
VANDA
Did you remember to record it?
Misty shakes her head.
VANDA
(to Jenn)
You?
No response.
VANDA
That?s okay. There will be other shows. Bigger ones.
(to Jenn)
Shows that aren?t in bowling alleys, if that makes you happy.
(to both)
Some that were there tonight will be back. Mark my words.
JENN
I need to clean my drums.
MISTY
(to Vanda)
Could we talk?
VANDA
Sure. Outside. Need a smoke.
They go upstairs.
EXT. JENN?S COURTYARD-NIGHT
The courtyard is surrounded by a ten foot stone fence. There are patio chairs with mesh seats. The two enter.
VANDA
What?s on your mind?
MISTY
Don?t you think you?re putting a little bit too much stock in this whole music thing?
VANDA
What do you mean?
MISTY
I mean, we finish school soon. What do you think are the chances of this actually working?
VANDA
Excellent if you stick with me. We need a little more persistence.
MISTY
That?s what I mean. Why aren?t you focusing on school first?
VANDA
Oh honey, school?s the least of my concern right now. Most successful musicians never even go to school.
MISTY
Yeah, but perhaps you should.
VANDA
Listen, you?re my friend and I need to tell you this. I?m going to make it. There?s no way that I can?t. I won?t be distracted from us breaking and getting out of this town. Not at all. Do you hear me?
A man walks by the fence, unseen by the girls. He is singing Angel by Conscience Pilate.
MISTY
Isn?t that?
VANDA
What do you mean?
MISTY
Listen.
The two listen closely. Vanda?s eyes become wide and she runs to the fence.
VANDA
Hello. Whoever you are, I love you. Stop, please.
He keeps walking along. She hops, trying to look over. She grabs a chair and steps up on it. Her foot goes through the wicker. She runs along, keeping pace with the voice, dragging the chair.
VANDA
Love, come back.
The voice fades out as the man walks away. Vanda sits, hard.
MISTY
Won?t be distracted?
VANDA
Shut up.
INT. WEIRDALE CATHEDRAL-DAY
Misty is again in the confessional. Thomas is on the other side.
THOMAS
What do you wish to confess?
MISTY
Hi brother.
THOMAS
You know, you don?t have to meet me in here. We could grab coffee if you want to chat.
MISTY
No, this is much better.
THOMAS
I don?t show up to your work to pester you.
MISTY
Well, first, I don?t have a job.
THOMAS
Noted.
MISTY
Second, if we grab coffee, you would just be my brother or just my priest. In here, you can be whatever I want you to be.
THOMAS
Don?t count on that.
Misty giggles.
THOMAS
Which are you wanting today?
MISTY
The priest.
THOMAS
Then what?s with the earlier comment?
MISTY
Just wanted to say hi to my brother.
THOMAS
Let me be your brother for a little while longer.
MISTY
Okay.
THOMAS
How?s the runt?
MISTY
Growing like a weed. Total brat sometimes, too. I was never that bad when I was his age, right?
There is silence.
MISTY
Hello?
THOMAS
Sorry, just having a little chuckle. And mom?
MISTY
Same as always. Works way too hard.
THOMAS
I?m sorry for that.
MISTY
Well, she isn?t the one who gave up a pro contract in favor of the cloth.
THOMAS
Someday, she?ll accept that I was called.
MISTY
I know that. You?ve told me all about it.
THOMAS
But your acceptance doesn?t keep her mad.
MISTY
I know that.
(beat)
Even though she doesn?t think you?re a good son, would it make you feel better to know that you?re an awesome big brother?
THOMAS
Thank you. Won?t get you relief on penance, but does make your brother feel better. Now, what would you like to confess?
MISTY
Ummm. If I can?t think of any, could I get back to you on it?
THOMAS
Why are you here if not to confess?
MISTY
Advice.
THOMAS
I have an office for that.
MISTY
Yeah, but again, more official here. Ya? know?
THOMAS
What do you need advice on? Still needing guidance?
MISTY
Perhaps. I?ve been praying and think God might have pointed me in a direction.
THOMAS
Oh really? Not leaving to tour sleazebag clubs with Vanda, are you?
MISTY
Ahem, Thomas the brother, you are excused. I?m talking to Thomas the priest now.
THOMAS
Sorry. Go ahead.
MISTY
Well, is it right to intercede into other people?s business when you see something you think is wrong?
THOMAS
Sometimes, yes.
MISTY
Well, I saw something and think I should get involved.
THOMAS
Do you think your role would make the situation better?
MISTY
That?s what I?m worried about.
THOMAS
Well, keep praying and listening; doesn?t sound like that?s too much of an issue with you. Be patient with your actions. Don?t be over eager to affect change if it?s not something that requires immediate action.
MISTY
Okay. Will take that to heart. I have another question for either of you.
THOMAS
Shoot.
MISTY
What do you know about modern day slavery?
Damn, you peeps suck sometimes. Not a comment? GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!
